Your Successful Road to Passing the DVSA ADI Standards Check
The Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) Standards Check is an assessment of an instructor’s ability to teach pupils effectively. Every ADI must take this check at least once during their four-year registration period.
What to Expect
- You’ll receive a letter from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) with a date and time for your check.
- The check involves giving a real lesson to a pupil while a DVSA examiner observes.
- The examiner will assess your instructional ability, risk management, and lesson planning.
Scoring
- The examiner scores out of 51 points.
- Grades:
- Grade A (43-51 points) – High standard of instruction.
- Grade B (31-42 points) – Satisfactory standard.
- Fail (0-30 points) – Below standard; may need further training.
How to Pass
- Structure lessons to suit your pupil’s needs.
- Engage in active risk management.
- Provide clear instructions and constructive feedback.
